Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) is preparing to commence delivery of eight Tejas MK1A fighter aircraft within the next 2 to 3 years, as per the Moneycontrol reports. The production line for the jets is being ramped up, signalling strong progress in India’s indigenous defence capabilities.
The deal signed on 7 November 2025 includes 113 F404-GE-IN20 engines to power 97 Tejas Mk1A aircraft, forming a core part of the ₹62,370 crore procurement plan. The that initial deliveries are intentionally modest as HAL aligns its production infrastructure and resolves cost-related adjustments with GE. The engine quantities also factor in lifecycle management and replacement requirements.
The initial 8 aircraft will be delivered between 24 and 36 months, reflecting HAL’s phased rollout strategy. From month 37 onward, bulk production will begin with 3 major tranches of 24 aircraft each, followed by a final batch of 12 fighters scheduled for months 73–84, corresponding to late 2031 to late 2032. HAL expects production to accelerate once the assembly line reaches operational stability.

As of November 19, 2025, at 1:58 PM, the HAL share price is trading at ₹4,758 per share, reflecting a decline of 1.04% from the previous day's closing price.
The planned delivery schedule for the Tejas MK1A marks a crucial milestone for India’s defence manufacturing ambitions and aligns with the government’s ‘Make in India’ strategy. With steady vendor participation and rising order visibility, HAL is positioning itself for long-term growth in aerospace and defence exports. The successful execution of this delivery plan will be critical in strengthening India’s air combat capabilities and accelerating its position as an indigenous aircraft producer.
