Gift Nifty Trades Above 24,950; Sensex, Nifty Likely To Open Positively on September 4

India’s benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50 are set for a positive start on Thursday following the GST Council’s decision to cut rates across 396 items late Wednesday.

Gift Nifty Today

The Gift Nifty was trading near the 24,960 mark, about 124 points above the previous Nifty futures close, pointing to a firm start for Indian equities.

Asian Market Overview

Asia-Pacific stocks rose on Thursday, tracking Wall Street’s overnight tech-driven rally. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up 0.57%, Topix gained 0.41%, South Korea’s Kospi climbed 0.45%, and Kosdaq jumped 0.84%.

Wall Street Insights

U.S. markets ended mixed on Wednesday. The S&P 500 gained, supported by tech stocks after a favourable federal court ruling in an Alphabet antitrust case lifted sentiment.

GST Council Highlights

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced sweeping GST reforms. The Council reduced the four existing tax slabs to two, 5% and 18%, while a special 40% rate will apply to luxury cars and tobacco. Many goods have also moved to lower tax categories, with some shifted to nil GST.

Domestic Market Recap

On Wednesday, the NSE Nifty gained 135.45 points (0.55%) to close at 24,715.05, while the BSE Sensex advanced 409.83 points (0.51%) to settle at 80,567.71.
