Gift Nifty Today: Indian Stock Market Set for Positive Start Amid Firm Global Cues

Indian benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty 50, are poised for a positive opening on Thursday, tracking firm cues from global markets.

Asian equities advanced after a strong overnight performance on Wall Street, where technology stocks continued their upward surge.

On Wednesday, domestic markets surrendered early gains but managed to close slightly higher. The Sensex edged up 50.15 points, or 0.06%, to settle at 82,276.07. Meanwhile, the Nifty 50 rose 57.85 points, or 0.23%, to finish at 25,482.50.

Gift Nifty was trading near the 25,669 mark, commanding a premium of about 41 points over the previous close of Nifty futures, indicating a likely upbeat opening for Indian equities.

Asian Markets

Asian markets traded in positive territory on Thursday, mirroring Wall Street’s rally. Japan’s Nikkei 225 surged 1.1% to hit a record high of 59,199.31, crossing the 59,000 mark for the first time. The broader Topix index climbed 1.45%, also scaling a fresh peak.

South Korea’s Kospi gained 1.65%, while the Kosdaq advanced 0.57%. Futures for Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index also signalled a firm start.

Wall Street

US markets ended Wednesday’s session on a strong note, touching two-week highs as technology shares extended their rally.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 307.65 points, or 0.63%, to close at 49,482.15. The S&P 500 rose 56.06 points, or 0.81%, to 6,946.13, while the Nasdaq Composite jumped 288.40 points, or 1.26%, to end at 23,152.08.

Trump Tariffs

In trade-related developments, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stated that tariff rates for certain countries will increase to 15% or higher, up from the recently imposed 10% level.
