FIIs and DIIs Boost Stakes in Nifty 50 Stocks in June 2025: Asian Paints, Zomato, Cipla and More

DIIs lifted their stakes in 34 Nifty 50 companies in Q2 2025, with major increases in Asian Paints, Zomato, Cipla, Bajaj Auto, Trent, NTPC, Shriram Finance, and Tata Steel.

The Indian stock market bounced back in the first quarter of FY26, recovering from March 2025 lows despite economic challenges. According to news reports, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) poured in $19.7 billion and Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) invested $5.4 billion into Indian equities in Q1 2025.

Shift in Institutional Ownership

  • DII Ownership Rising: In the Nifty-500, DIIs’ share rose to 19.4%, up 170 basis points year-on-year and 20 basis points quarter-on-quarter.
     
  • FII Ownership Stable: FIIs held 18.8% in Nifty-500 companies, a slight YoY drop but flat QoQ.
     
  • Nifty 50 Stakes: FIIs’ stake stood at 24.9% in June 2025 (up 20 bps QoQ but down 30 bps YoY), while DIIs hit a record 23.9% (up 210 bps YoY and 30 bps QoQ).

Where FIIs & DIIs Changed Stakes in June 2025

1. Asian Paints

DIIs increased holdings in Asian Paints by 5.5%, showing faith in recovery and easing competition.

2. Zomato

DIIs raised their stake in Zomato by 2.9% to 30.9%; FIIs retained a strong 44.3% holding.

3. Cipla

DIIs’ share up 4.3% YoY and 1.1% QoQ; FIIs reduced by 2.5%.

4. Bajaj Auto

DIIs increased stake in Bajaj Auto by 1.1% to 12.1%; FIIs cut holdings.

5. Trent

DIIs up 1.3% to 18.5%; FIIs held 18.4% by quarter-end.

6. NTPC

DIIs’ stake rose 1.7%, while FIIs reduced by nearly the same amount.

7. Shriram Finance

DIIs raised their stake in NTPC by 1% to 16.3%; FIIs still hold the majority.

8. Tata Steel

DIIs up 1.6% to 26.3%; FIIs trimmed their holdings.
