
Electric vehicle (EV) adoption in India continued to accelerate in October as retail registrations across key segments recorded year-on-year growth.
According to data from the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), the passenger EV segment saw the highest jump, while two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and commercial EVs also registered positive momentum.
Retail sales of electric passenger vehicles rose to 18,055 units in October, up from 11,464 units during the same month last year a 57% increase.

The electric two-wheeler category reported 1,43,887 units in retail sales in October, marking a modest 3% increase from 1,40,225 units last year.
Segment Performance
The two-wheeler segment remains the largest contributor to India’s EV penetration, though growth in October was moderate compared to other categories.
Electric three-wheeler sales rose 5% year-on-year, with 70,604 units registered in October. This segment continues to play a crucial role in last-mile mobility and urban transportation, with steady demand from fleet operators and commercial users.
The commercial EV segment saw the most dramatic rise, with retail sales more than doubling to 1,767 units last month compared to October 2024. Increased interest in electric cargo vehicles and supportive state policies have contributed to this upward trend.

October’s numbers underline the growing momentum of EV adoption across India. Passenger EVs led the surge with robust double-digit growth, while two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and commercial EVs also moved upward.
