Indian equity markets opened the week on a firm note on December 22, 2025, with the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty extending gains from the previous session.
Early trade was supported by renewed foreign institutional investor interest, expectations around future US monetary policy, and constructive cues from global markets.
Together, these factors contributed to a positive start for domestic equities.
At around 10:00 AM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 85,412.84, up 483.48 points or 0.57 %. The benchmark index moved higher as buying interest emerged across select large-cap stocks, reflecting improved risk sentiment at the start of the week.
The NSE Nifty was also trading above the 26,100 mark during early trade, indicating broad-based participation across sectors.
Market sentiment received support from foreign institutional investors (FIIs), who remained net buyers for the third consecutive session on Friday.
FIIs purchased equities worth ₹1,830.89 crore, reinforcing confidence in domestic markets and contributing to the upward momentum seen in early trade on Monday, as per news reports.
Investor focus has also been on the outlook for US interest rates. Statements from US President Donald Trump advocating lower interest rates have further influenced expectations around future monetary easing.
Select heavyweight stocks contributed positively to the Sensex’s gains. Infosys was among the top contributors, adding approximately 97 points to the index, while Reliance Industries contributed around 57 points, supported by buying interest in large-cap names.
Some stocks weighed on the index, partially offsetting gains. UltraTech Cement emerged as a drag, subtracting close to six points from the Sensex, while Power Grid Corporation also exerted mild downward pressure.
