In a significant step toward strengthening air defence capabilities, India has issued a ₹30,000 crore tender to Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the acquisition of the indigenously developed Anant Shastra missile systems, as per the ANI reports. This ambitious project aims to fortify India's strategic borders with Pakistan and China.
The Indian Army has formally issued a tender to BEL for procuring 5 to 6 regiments of the Anant Shastra, previously known as the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM). Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the system is mobile and capable of detecting, tracking and engaging threats on the move with a range up to 30 km. The ₹30,000 crore investment will significantly enhance India's readiness against aerial threats.
This procurement comes shortly after Operation Sindoor, during which India countered drone attacks using L-70 and Zu-23 guns, Akash missiles, and MRSAM systems. The new Anant Shastra system is designed to complement these existing defences and enhance operational synergy with Indian Air Force assets such as Spyder and S-400.
Extensive trials have been conducted under varied environmental conditions, proving the Anant Shastra's reliability during day and night. Beyond missiles, the Indian Army is also acquiring advanced radars, jammers, laser-based defence systems and very short-range missile systems, particularly to neutralise drones of Chinese and Turkish origin used by Pakistan.

The Anant Shastra procurement aligns with India's long-term strategy of self-reliance and reduced dependency on foreign defence equipment.
On September 29, 2025, Bharat Electronics share price opened at ₹401.00 on NSE, above the previous close of ₹395.90. During the day, it surged to ₹405.75 and dipped to ₹400.60. The stock is trading at ₹404.45 as of 9:46 AM. The stock registered a significant gain of 2.16%.
Over the past week, it has remained unchanged, over the past month, it has moved up by 8.17%, and over the past 3 months, it has declined by 3.82%.
The issuance of the ₹30,000 crore tender to BEL for Anant Shastra missile systems signifies a landmark advancement in India’s defence architecture. As tensions persist along the borders, these state-of-the-art systems promise critical aerial protection and underscore the nation’s commitment to self-reliance in defence technology.
