Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has partnered with Airtel Payments Bank to introduce co-branded RuPay ‘On-The-Go’ cards enabled with National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) functionality for commuters across public transport systems, as per ANI reports.
The newly launched cards are designed to allow passengers to use a single open-loop payment system across metro services, buses and other transit networks nationwide.
The announcement was made at the Delhi Metro headquarters in the presence of Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, and Anubrata Biswas, Managing Director and CEO of Airtel Payments Bank, along with senior officials from both organisations.
The co-branded cards will be available in both debit card and PPI-MTS formats, which refers to prepaid payment instruments designed for mass transit systems.
According to Dr. Vikas Kumar, the partnership reflects DMRC’s continued focus on improving passenger convenience through innovative mobility solutions.
He stated that the new NCMC-enabled cards would support seamless travel not only across the Delhi Metro network but also on multiple transit systems across India.
Anubrata Biswas said the partnership represents a shared effort to modernise urban mobility through secure and digital-first payment solutions.
He added that the initiative supports the broader ‘One Nation, One Card’ vision aimed at creating unified transport payment systems nationwide.
The cards are expected to become available across all DMRC stations within the next 10 days. Users will also be able to recharge them digitally through the DMRC app and the Airtel app, reducing dependency on physical recharge counters at metro stations.
Existing DMRC-issued cards will continue functioning normally, while the metro operator plans to further encourage adoption of NCMC-based cards in the future.
The partnership also reflects a broader shift towards integrating digital payment infrastructure with public mobility systems to improve commuter convenience and payment interoperability.
The collaboration between DMRC and Airtel Payments Bank highlights the growing adoption of integrated digital payment solutions in India’s urban transport ecosystem as mobility and fintech platforms continue to converge.
