As per Reuters report, Aditya Birla Global Trading is re-entering the iron ore business at a time when the market is becoming less attractive for many traders.
The move appears aimed at widening its metals exposure while balancing risk across its broader commodities portfolio.
According to reports, Aditya Birla Global Trading is restarting its iron ore operations after having suspended the business in 2022.
The Singapore-based commodities trading house is part of the Aditya Birla Group, which also owns aluminium producer Hindalco. The company is active in agriculture, energy and metals trading, though iron ore has not recently featured as one of its core businesses.
Its return to iron ore is reportedly linked to a renewed focus on China, which remains the world’s largest iron ore consuming market.
The restart comes at a time when several traders are moving away from iron ore because of record low volatility. In commodities trading, volatility often creates opportunities for traders to benefit from price movements. When prices remain in a narrow range, trading opportunities become more limited.
In China’s vast iron ore market, price swings have become more subdued over the past few years.
As per the report, this is partly due to the growing role of China Minerals Resources Group, the state backed iron ore buyer, which has been consolidating purchases and attempting to keep volatility under control.

The development highlights how major trading houses are continuing to adjust their portfolios in response to changing market conditions. Even in a quieter iron ore market, the Chinese market remains central to global trade decisions.
