As per the news reports, SBI Chairman C S Setty stated that SBI General Insurance and SBI Mutual Fund are being considered for public listing. No timeline has been finalised for either company’s initial public offering (IPO)..

Events and Announcements

The statement was made by SBI Chairman CS Setty during the launch of specialised health insurance branches of SBI General Insurance in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. These are the first such branches for the insurer, with plans to expand to other states. The company said this is aimed at widening access to health insurance in more markets.

Details on IPO Consideration

Setty said both the Asset Management Company (SBI Mutual Fund) and SBI General Insurance are strong candidates for listing. However, no specific schedule or roadmap has been decided. He did not provide further details on the potential size or structure of the offerings.

US Tariff Impact

On questions about the impact of US tariffs, Setty said the direct effect on Indian exports is limited because of geographic and sectoral diversification. He added that sectors such as chemicals, textiles, gems, and jewellery, which have higher dependence on US markets, may face challenges. Banking sector exposure to these industries is limited, he stated.

Government and Banking Support

According to Setty, the central government is monitoring the situation and could provide assistance to the most affected sectors if the tariff measures continue. Banks may step in with additional support if required. He said it was important for tariff-related uncertainty to be resolved quickly.

Bancassurance and Recruitment

On bancassurance, Setty said ongoing reforms are aimed at ensuring that customers are offered appropriate insurance products. He also noted that SBI has hired staff consistently for more than a decade and will maintain recruitment activity.
