As per The Economic Times Report, Tata Capital is preparing for a highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO) expected in early September, targeting a valuation between $18 billion and $20 billion. This move aligns with guidelines from the Reserve Bank of India for large shadow banks to list by the end of September.
As per the report, Tata Capital aims to raise approximately $2.2 billion through its upcoming IPO, significantly boosting its market presence. The company plans to file an updated draft red herring prospectus shortly, refining its earlier valuation estimate of around $11 billion. If achieved, the $20 billion valuation would position Tata Capital as the 4th-largest shadow lender in India, following Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv and Jio Financial Services.
Investor appetite in India’s public markets remains robust, energised by successful offerings like HDB Financial Services, which debuted with a $7.7 billion valuation and rose 14% on its first trading day. Strengthening equity enthusiasm and the recent rights issue completed by Tata Capital have likely influenced its higher valuation target.

The Reserve Bank of India’s directive for systemically important shadow lenders to get listed by September 2025 is a driving force behind Tata Capital's public issue. This IPO will add to the surge in primary market activity in India, with projections suggesting over $30 billion could be raised from various IPOs within the next year.
In comparison, Bajaj Finance holds a valuation of roughly $69 billion, Bajaj Finserv exceeds $38 billion, while Jio Financial Services is valued at $23 billion. Tata Capital’s $20 billion pursuit highlights its ambition to cement a leadership position in the Indian non-banking financial services sector.
Tata Capital’s upcoming IPO is set to be a landmark event in India's financial sector, targeting a $20 billion valuation and aiming to raise $2.2 billion. Backed by market enthusiasm, regulatory direction and recent successes in the shadow banking space, the offering positions Tata Capital at a strategic inflection point.
