Interglobe Aviation Ltd, IndiGo, will be the first airline to operate from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), with the tentative launch scheduled for the end of August 2025. The airline has signed a memorandum of understanding with NMIA and will begin with over 18 daily departures, translating to 36 air traffic movements on the first day.
Operations will begin with flights to 15 cities. While the destinations have not been disclosed, news reports indicate the flights will include both new routes and services shifted from the existing Mumbai airport.
By November 2025, IndiGo plans to increase operations to 79 daily departures (158 air traffic movements), including 14 international departures. By March 2026, the airline expects to operate over 100 daily departures, scaling up to 140 by November 2026, including 30 international departures.

Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd. is a joint venture between Adani Group’s Adani Airport Holdings Ltd., which holds a 74% stake, and the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), which owns 26%. Adani Airport Holdings also owns Mumbai International Airport Ltd., which runs the current Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai.
CSMIA handles more than 45 million passengers annually but faces congestion and limited scope for expansion due to surrounding development. NMIA is expected to act as a secondary airport for the Mumbai region, aiming to reduce pressure on CSMIA and improve overall passenger traffic management.
In aviation terms, each takeoff and landing is counted as a separate air traffic movement. So, 18 daily departures and their corresponding arrivals account for 36 movements.
As of 10:15 AM on May 29, 2025, Interglobe Aviation's share price was trading at ₹5,291.50, down 0.73%, with a 21.58% increase over the past 6 months and a 32.19% drop over the past year.
IndiGo will be the launch airline for NMIA, starting with 18 daily departures and expanding gradually over the next 18 months. The airport is expected to support increased air traffic demand in the Mumbai region while helping to decongest the current airport.
