
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 21st instalment of the PM-Kisan scheme on November 19, crediting nearly ₹18,000 crore to around 9 crore eligible farmers through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
However, compared to the 20th instalment, around 70 lakh fewer farmers received the payment this time. This sharp drop came after a nationwide verification drive to ensure only genuine beneficiaries remain on the list. In the last instalment, the government had transferred about ₹20,500 crore to 9.7 crore farmers.
So far, the Centre has disbursed over ₹3.88 lakh crore across 21 instalments to farming families since the scheme began in 2019.
The PM-Kisan scheme, launched in February 2019, provides ₹6,000 per year to land-holding farmers. The amount is paid in 3 instalments of ₹2,000 each directly into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts. The goal is to help farmers meet their crop-related expenses and avoid taking loans from moneylenders.
