As per Bloomberg report, in November 2025, China's rare-earth magnet exports to the United States experienced a decline, as reported by Chinese customs data.

This decrease came in the wake of a trade truce between the 2 nations, which had initially sparked hopes for increased export activity.

Drop in Exports to the US

The data reveals that shipments of rare-earth magnets from China to the US fell by 11%, dropping from approximately 656 tons in October to about 582 tons in November.

This reduction occurred despite the recent trade agreement aimed at easing tensions between the two countries.

Overall Export Trends

While exports to the US declined, China's overall rare-earth product exports, including magnets, rose in November. This increase marked one of the higher monthly totals on record, highlighting the strategic importance of rare-earth materials in various technologies.

Trade Context and Geopolitical Factors

Earlier in 2025, China had imposed export controls on rare-earth materials in response to US tariffs. These controls contributed to significant drops in shipments.

However, following a late-October meeting between President Trump and President Xi, China agreed to suspend some export controls for a year. Despite this, the November figures indicate lingering trade tensions.

Geopolitical Considerations

The rare-earth export scenario is part of broader trade frictions. The US continues to impose high tariffs on many Chinese imports, leading to ongoing discussions about tariffs, export licences, and regulatory adjustments.

China has also introduced new streamlined rare-earth export licences to facilitate shipments to key supply chains, including those in the US.

Conclusion

The decline in China's rare-earth magnet exports to the US in November 2025 underscores the complexity of trade relations between the two nations. Despite a trade truce, the impact of previous tensions continues to affect specific segments of trade.
