The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved three railway multitracking projects with a total investment of ₹9,072 crore. These projects aim to enhance connectivity, operational efficiency, and economic development across four states.
Combined, these projects will add approximately 307 km to the Indian Railways network, covering eight districts across the four states.
The projects will improve connectivity for approximately 5,407 villages with a population of about 98 lakh, fostering "Atmanirbhar Bharat" by creating employment opportunities and stimulating regional development. Enhanced rail capacity will boost mobility, operational efficiency, and service reliability, alleviating congestion on critical routes.
Capacity augmentation will facilitate the transport of key commodities like coal, steel, iron ore, and fertilizers, increasing freight traffic by 52 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). This shift to rail transport will reduce oil imports by 6 crore liters and CO₂ emissions by 3 crore kg annually, equivalent to planting 1 crore trees.
Improved rail connectivity will also benefit tourism destinations such as Kachnar Shiv Temple, Kanha National Park, Pench National Park, and Chandil Dam, among others.

The projects are aligned with the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, emphasizing multimodal connectivity and logistic efficiency through integrated planning. Scheduled for completion by 2030-31, they reflect the government's vision for a modernized, sustainable railway network supporting India's economic growth and climate goals.
The ₹9,072 crore railway multitracking projects represent a strategic investment in India's infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, economic activity, and environmental sustainability across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. By increasing network capacity and reducing logistical costs, these initiatives advance the nation's development objectives.
