Tesla is accelerating its India strategy by expanding charging infrastructure and strengthening its product portfolio as it builds a long-term presence in the country.
As per PTI report, the company has announced plans to significantly scale its charging infrastructure, including both superchargers and destination chargers, across major urban hubs. These include Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Pune.
Currently, Tesla operates five supercharging stations in India. The expansion aims to address range anxiety, a key concern among electric vehicle users, by ensuring charging availability in high-traffic and lifestyle-centric locations such as workplaces, shopping areas, dining zones and travel corridors.
According to Sharad Agarwal, the company is replicating its global charging ecosystem in India to deliver a consistent ownership experience.
Globally, Tesla has built a charging network comprising over 8,100 stations and more than 80,000 superchargers.
The system operates with an uptime of 99.95%, ensuring high reliability for users. The company indicated that similar standards will be implemented in India as part of its infrastructure rollout.
Tesla recently introduced its Model Y in India and has now launched a second offering, the Model YL, a three-row, six-seater SUV priced at ₹61.99 lakh.
The company entered the Indian market in July last year with the opening of its first experience centre in Mumbai. It currently operates three experience centres located in Delhi, Mumbai and Gurugram.
Tesla has expanded its service infrastructure to include two service stations in Gurugram and Mumbai, along with a service and body shop facility in Pune.
The company plans to further expand this network within the current quarter by opening additional centres in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad.
Operating on a direct-to-consumer model, Tesla has delivered vehicles across 21 states in India so far.
Additionally, the company has developed the capability to install home charging solutions across all cities and states, supporting wider EV adoption.
