India has taken another step in strengthening its development partnership with Nepal by formalising agreements for new community-focused projects.

The initiative continues a long-standing collaboration aimed at supporting infrastructure and social development across the neighbouring country.

MoUs Signed and Project Details

As per ANI reports, The Embassy of India in Kathmandu has signed Memorandums of Understanding for undertaking 7 High Impact Community Development Projects in Nepal.

These agreements have been executed in coordination with the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration of the Government of Nepal, along with the respective project implementing agencies.

The projects will be funded through grant assistance provided by the Government of India, with a total estimated cost of NRs 473 million.

The initiatives will focus on key sectors including education, health and agriculture, targeting improvements in essential services and infrastructure.

The projects are planned across multiple districts, namely Nawalpur, Terhathum, Mustang, Kailali, Rautahat, Dolpa and Banke.

Implementation and Programme Scale

All 7 projects will be executed through local governance structures in Nepal, including municipalities and rural municipalities. This approach is intended to ensure effective implementation at the grassroots level.

These projects form part of the broader High Impact Community Development Projects programme, which India has been supporting since 2003. Including the latest additions, a total of 598 projects have been undertaken under this initiative.

Out of these, 506 projects have already been completed across sectors such as health, education, agriculture, drinking water, connectivity, sanitation and public infrastructure.

The projects are distributed across all 7 provinces of Nepal, while the remaining initiatives are currently at different stages of execution.

Strategic Context and Bilateral Cooperation

India and Nepal maintain close bilateral ties, characterised by cooperation across multiple sectors.

The continued rollout of development projects highlights India’s support for Nepal’s growth and infrastructure expansion in priority areas.

These initiatives are aimed at strengthening local capabilities, improving service delivery and contributing to long-term development outcomes in the region.
