On February 9, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Patrick Herminie signed a $175 million special economic package and several MoUs to boost cooperation in key sectors. 

Details of the $175 Million Package 

The package is designed to fund concrete projects in social housing, e mobility, vocational training, health, defence and maritime security.  

Funding will be channelled through joint implementation bodies established by the two governments. The agreement was signed at Hyderabad House in New Delhi in the presence of both leaders. 

Areas Covered by the Agreement 

Social housing initiatives aim to improve affordable living conditions for vulnerable groups. E mobility projects focus on electric vehicle infrastructure and related services.  

Vocational training programmes will enhance skill development for youth. Health cooperation includes capacity building in medical services.  

Defence collaboration targets capacity enhancement and joint exercises. Maritime security measures address surveillance, search and rescue and anti‑piracy operations.

Significance of the Bilateral MoUs 

Both leaders highlighted the long‑standing ties that link the 2 nations across the Indian Ocean. PM Modi noted that trade and cultural exchange have deep roots, while Herminie stressed the contribution of the Indian community in Seychelles to the local economy. The MoUs are intended to translate historic goodwill into tangible development outcomes. 

Conclusion 

The $175 million package and accompanying MoUs create a framework for cooperation in housing, e mobility, training, health, defence and maritime security, reflecting the strategic partnership between India and Seychelles.
