Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIN) has announced a new business division called Wipro Electronic Materials. The division will focus on producing base materials for Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), a segment India currently depends on imports for.
The company plans to establish a Copper Clad Laminate (CCL) manufacturing facility in Karnataka. The investment for this project is estimated at ₹500 crore. The facility is expected to create around 350 jobs once operational.
According to Wipro’s statement, the plant will produce more than 6 million sheets of copper-clad laminates annually. It will also manufacture pre-impregnated materials used in PCB manufacturing.
At present, India imports all its copper-clad laminate requirements. The new plant is aimed at meeting a part of this demand locally. The company has stated that the initiative received support from the Government of Karnataka and MeitY.
The facility is expected to serve sectors including telecom, automotive electronics, industrial systems, consumer devices, and AI infrastructure. These sectors are currently witnessing increased demand for electronic components.
"By giving Indian manufacturers reliable access to locally produced, high-quality materials, we are strengthening supply chain resilience and accelerating global competitiveness," Pratik Kumar, CEO of Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIN) & MD of Wipro Enterprises, stated.
The plant’s goal is to reduce reliance on imports and improve local supply chain availability for PCB manufacturing.
