Gift Nifty is hinting at a positive start for the Indian equity markets on Thursday, trading around the 25,290 mark — a premium of nearly 38 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close. This suggests a potential continuation of the bullish momentum witnessed in the previous sessions, as investors digest mixed global cues and geopolitical developments.
The global mood remained cautious as investors monitored the fragile ceasefire between Iran and Israel. While Asian markets traded mixed, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 gaining 0.4% and the Topix rising 0.19%, South Korea’s Kospi and Kosdaq remained flat. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index futures, however, pointed to a weaker opening.
On Wednesday, the Indian stock market surged for a second straight session, buoyed by strong investor sentiment and favorable macro cues. The BSE Sensex rose 700.40 points (0.85%) to close at 82,755.51, while the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 200.40 points (0.80%) to end above the crucial 25,244.75.
This uptrend in domestic equities is a clear signal of robust investor confidence, driven partly by easing tensions in the Middle East and resilient economic indicators back home.
Overnight, the US markets ended largely flat after a two-day rally. The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 106.59 points (0.25%) to 42,982.43, while the S&P 500 was nearly unchanged at 6,092.16. The tech-heavy Nasdaq rose by 61.02 points (0.31%) to 19,973.55.
Notable movements included Nvidia’s 4.33% surge to a record high, gains in AMD (+3.59%) and Micron Technology (+5%), and declines in Tesla (-3.8%), FedEx (-3.3%), and General Mills (-5.1%).
While Gift Nifty suggests a positive opening for Indian markets, investors remain cautious amid the ongoing Israel-Iran ceasefire situation and global economic uncertainties. The continued rally in domestic equities indicates underlying strength, yet short-term volatility cannot be ruled out. Market participants should stay alert to geopolitical and macroeconomic updates as they shape near-term trends.
