Indian benchmark indices closed sharply lower on Monday, May 13, 2025, as investor sentiment turned negative due to broad-based selling across sectors. After ending last week on a stronger note, the markets reversed course amid weak global cues and profit booking in heavyweight stocks. 

The BSE Sensex tumbled 1,281.68 points (1.55%) to close at 81,148.22, while the NSE Nifty 50 declined 346.35 points (1.39%) to settle at 24,578.35.

Hero MotoCorp share price gained 1.77%, moving from ₹3,984.9 to ₹4,055.5. 

Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd  

Dr. Reddy's Laboratories share price climbed 1.04%, closing at ₹1,208 from a previous close of ₹1,195.6. 

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd  

Sun Pharmaceutical share price edged up 0.95%, finishing the session at ₹1,702.2, up from ₹1,686.2.

Eternal Systems Ltd  

Eternal share price dropped by 3.34%, closing at ₹231.5 compared to the previous close of ₹239.5. 

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd  

Powergrid share price slipped 3.19%, ending the session at ₹299.2, down from ₹309.05. 

HCL Technologies Ltd  

HCL Tech share price went down by 3.02%, closing at ₹1,619.9 from a previous close of ₹1,670.3. 

Tata Consultancy Services Ltd  

TCS share price fell 2.83%, ending at ₹3,518, compared to ₹3,620.4 previously. 
 

Conclusion 

The Indian markets saw a sharp decline on May 13, 2025, due to widespread selling pressure and weak global sentiment. While select stocks like BEL and Jio Financial offered some gains, heavyweight IT stocks such as Infosys and TCS dragged indices down, reflecting investor caution and profit booking across sectors.
