TKIL Industries, previously known as Thyssenkrupp Industries India, has joined forces with Germany's HOPPECKE Batterien GmbH & Co. This new partnership aims to build special battery systems for India's growing train system. The two companies have already secured their first project, with work starting in 2025.

What the Partnership Between TKIL Industries and HOPPECKE Means

TKIL and HOPPECKE will work together to design, build, and put in place advanced energy storage systems for various types of trains. This includes metro trains, regional trains, and locomotives. This collaboration is a part of TKIL's bigger plan to offer clean energy solutions, like green hydrogen and compressed natural gas.

Why This is Important for India

This partnership comes at a very important time for India's railway system. The Indian government wants to double the number of electric locomotives by 2030, and metro networks are expanding quickly. This means there's a big need for environmentally friendly battery systems.

India is expected to have metro trains running in 31 cities by 2030, up from 23 in 2025. This will create a demand for over 20,000 electric locomotives in the next five years. Also, more than 900 kilometres of new metro rail projects are currently being built.

How TKIL Industries and HOPPECKE Will Contribute

TKIL will bring its experience in managing projects and manufacturing to the partnership. HOPPECKE, on the other hand, will offer its many years of knowledge in industrial energy storage. Over time, the companies also plan to set up local service centres across India to help with installing and maintaining these battery systems.

Both companies together aim to help speed up the shift to electric trains in India. Since India is an important market for clean transportation, this partnership is a big step towards helping India's railway sector.

TKIL's Vision for a Greener Future

TKIL Industries, which started in 1947, has played a big role in India's industrial growth. Their move into battery and energy storage systems is part of their long-term plan to help India reach its goal of net-zero emissions.

Conclusion

This collaboration between TKIL Industries and HOPPECKE Batterien GmbH & Co. is a significant step towards a more sustainable and electrified future for India's vast railway network. By combining their strengths, they are poised to meet the increasing demand for advanced battery systems and contribute to India's clean energy goals.
