Tata Motors has opened two new Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs) under its Re.Wi.Re (Recycle with Respect) initiative, as per the reports. The centres are located in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) and Raipur (Chhattisgarh), and were virtually inaugurated by the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari.

Scrapping Capacity and Facility Operators

The Raipur facility, operated by Raipur Green Energy Pvt. Ltd can dismantle up to 25,000 vehicles per year. The Lucknow centre, managed by Moto Scrapland Pvt. Ltd has an annual capacity of 15,000 vehicles. Both are equipped to handle vehicles from all brands and categories, including 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, passenger cars, and commercial vehicles.

Total Network

With these additions, Tata Motors now operates a total of 10 vehicle scrapping centres. These are located in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, Pune, Guwahati, Kolkata, Raipur, and Lucknow. The company's total network capacity for dismantling now exceeds 1.75 lakh vehicles per year.

Processes and Compliance

Each facility uses a digital, paperless system for documentation and operations. Dismantling methods include cell-type systems for commercial vehicles and two- or three-wheelers, and line-type systems for passenger cars. Dedicated stations are in place for the removal of tyres, batteries, fluids, gases, and other components.

The procedures follow the norms set under India’s National Vehicle Scrappage Policy.

The Re.Wi.Re initiative is part of the company’s alignment with the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy, aimed at promoting cleaner mobility and enabling formalised vehicle recycling in India.
