Star Union Dai-ichi Life Insurance (SUD Life) has introduced a new equity-linked pension fund under its ULIP pension product, Pension Plus. The fund, called the SUD Life NIFTY Alpha 50 Index Pension Fund, is now available to customers on the Policybazaar platform.
The pension fund will invest in stocks that are part of the NIFTY Alpha 50 Index. This index comprises 50 companies selected from the top 300 listed firms, based on their alpha, essentially a measure of performance relative to the broader market. As of April 30, 2025, the index has delivered a 5-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 33.29%.
The fund’s portfolio spans multiple sectors, including financial services, consumer goods, healthcare, capital goods, infrastructure, technology, automobiles, oil, metals and mining, and real estate. This diversification is to maintain balance and exposure across various segments of the economy.
To stay updated with market trends, the fund’s portfolio is reviewed and rebalanced every quarter. This is intended to ensure that it remains aligned with the most recent developments and retains companies that continue to meet the alpha-based criteria set by the index.
The new fund is being distributed through Policybazaar, a digital insurance marketplace. SUD Life is a joint venture between Bank of India, Union Bank of India, and Japan-based Dai-ichi Life. The company began operations in 2009 and offers a range of life insurance and retirement-focused products.

The launch of the NIFTY Alpha 50 Index Pension Fund adds another market-linked option to SUD Life’s retirement portfolio. With its focus on alpha-based stock selection and quarterly rebalancing, the fund is structured to mirror the movements of a high-performance benchmark, offering another route to retirement savings through the ULIP model.
