Ebix Technologies, a subsidiary of Eraaya Lifespaces, has received a ₹140 crore contract from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), as per exchange filing. The contract is for the implementation of the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) across the state for concessional passengers.
The project includes mandatory use of NCMC smartcards for all concessional passengers and pass holders on MSRTC buses. Regular passengers will have the option to use the card. Distribution is expected through 3,000 retail outlets.
Ebix is required to issue a minimum of 70 lakh NCMC cards in the 1st year of rollout. This number is expected to scale up to over 2 crore cards as the system expands across Maharashtra’s public transport network.
Once fully implemented, the system is projected to handle annual transactions worth ₹2,000 crore. This will be facilitated by the digital payment infrastructure integrated with MSRTC’s existing ticketing system.
Ebix had previously won a contract in November 2022 to supply and maintain 38,622 Android-based Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs) for MSRTC. These were linked to an online reservation system and covered a wide passenger base.
The ETMs have reportedly issued around 220 crore tickets in the last 2 years. MSRTC operates a fleet of over 16,000 buses and serves more than 13 crore passengers every month, covering both urban and rural areas.

The NCMC initiative is being led by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in partnership with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The card can be used across different modes of transport.
As of 10:15 AM on July 23, 2025, Eraaya Lifespaces share price was trading at ₹48.71, down 1.99%.
The NCMC project expands Ebix Technologies’ involvement in public transport digitisation. The rollout is to begin soon, adding another layer to MSRTC’s tech-based upgrades.
