SBI Mutual Fund Buys 3.5 Crore Shares in Asian Paints

On June 12, Dalal Street witnessed a significant block deal involving Asian Paints shares during the pre-open session. A total of 3.5 crore shares, representing 3.64% equity, were traded at ₹2,201 per share. The deal size was ₹7,703.5 crore. Reliance Industries (RIL), via its subsidiary Siddhant Commercials Private Limited, sold these shares, reducing its stake from 4.90% to 1.26%. SBI Mutual Fund bought the shares, increasing its holding from 1.51% to 5.15%. 

Asian Paint share price closed 0.73% higher at ₹2,225 on the NSE after the deal. At 1:36 PM, it was trading at 2,204.90. 

Divestment of Indonesian Operations 

 In March 2025, Asian Paints sold its Indonesian business to a Singapore-based subsidiary of Omega Property Investments Pty Ltd, Australia, for SGD 6.8 million (₹44 crore). This divestment aligns with the company’s focus on its core markets. 

Asian Paints Q4 FY25 Financial Results 

Asian Paints witnessed a decline in its net profits in FY25. It attributed this to muted demand, weak consumer sentiment, downtrading, and increased competition.  Here is a holistic breakdown of their results:  

  • Net profit: ₹700.83 crore, down 45% from ₹1,275.30 crore in Q4 FY24 

  • Revenue from operations: ₹8,358.91 crore, down 4.25% from ₹8,730.76 crore 

  • Total expenses: ₹7,276.60 crore, slightly decreased year-on-year 

  • Total income (including other sources): ₹8,458.76 crore, down 5.14%

Conclusion 

 The large block deal marks a shift in Asian Paints’ shareholding with SBI Mutual Fund becoming a major stakeholder. The Q4 FY25 results show the company facing challenges from weak demand and competitive pressures, affecting profit and revenue. Going forward, Asian Paints will need effective strategies to boost growth and market presence.
