Rapido is preparing to enter the food delivery space with its upcoming app, Ownly, starting with a pilot launch in select Bengaluru neighborhoods. The pilot, expected within the next 8–10 days, will initially focus on Koramangala, HSR Layout, and Sarjapur.
With a longer-term vision to expand to 10 cities over the next year, Rapido is positioning itself as a cost-efficient alternative to Zomato and Swiggy, as per Economic Times report.
Rapido will roll out its food delivery service, Ownly, in Bengaluru starting next week, beginning with a limited pilot in Koramangala, HSR Layout, and Sarjapur. While the company had initially planned for a broader launch in August, it is now opting for a smaller-scale pilot in July to gather valuable operational insights.
For the first few months, the focus will remain solely on Bengaluru, with plans to expand to two or three more cities by October and eventually reach 10 cities by July 2026, the report added.
With Ownly, Rapido aims to challenge established players like Zomato and Swiggy by offering restaurant partners lower commission rates ranging from 8% to 15% a stark contrast to the 16–30% typically charged by competitors.
Rapido is also in the process of signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with restaurant associations to establish mutual expectations, focusing on a collaborative launch model that could shift industry dynamics.
Rapido is building its Ownly platform around value-driven offerings, urging restaurants to provide 4–5 menu items under ₹150. This aligns with a planned budget-friendly category on the app. Additionally, restaurants are negotiating for access to customer data a long-standing demand in the food delivery space. while Rapido is requesting exclusive, lowest-price listings and moderate packaging fees in return. Interestingly, this comes just as Swiggy, which is also a Rapido investor, has introduced its own ₹99 store.

As the food delivery industry faces a growth slowdown, Rapido’s move into the space adds a new layer of competition and potential disruption. With its lower commission model, emphasis on affordability, and strategic pilot approach, Rapido is hoping to replicate its success from ride-hailing in the food tech sector. If the pilot proves successful, Ownly could become a serious challenger in an otherwise saturated market.
