Many people on social media are wrongly claiming that the Delhi government has lifted the ban on old diesel and petrol vehicles. This is not true. The 10-year ban on diesel vehicles and the 15-year ban on petrol vehicles in Delhi-NCR is still in effect.
Recently, the Delhi government wrote to the Centre’s Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), asking it to pause the fuel-based ban on end-of-life (EOL) vehicles within Delhi. This was due to public pressure and issues with the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system.
Because of this, many people thought that the entire NCR ban had been removed. However, this is not the case.
Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that he has requested the CAQM to put the fuel ban on hold for now. But this does not mean the rule for scrapping 10-year-old diesel or 15-year-old petrol vehicles has changed.
This temporary pause is only for Delhi and only about fuel-based restrictions — not the age-based scrapping rule.

The Delhi-NCR ban on 10-year-old diesel and 15-year-old petrol vehicles remains fully enforced. Despite social media claims, the Delhi government's request to CAQM was only for a temporary, fuel-based restriction pause within Delhi, not a lifting of the age-based scrapping rule or the wider NCR ban. As of July 4, 2025, no policy change has occurred; older vehicles are still prohibited.
