Quant Mutual Fund introduces India’s first Specialised Investment Fund (SIF), a long-short equity fund designed to balance risk and returns.

What is a Specialised Investment Fund (SIF)?

A Specialised Investment Fund (SIF) is a new category created by SEBI. It sits between:

  • Mutual Funds: highly regulated with set rules.
  • PMS (Portfolio Management Services): very flexible, but needs at least ₹50 lakh to start.

SIFs are more accessible, with a minimum investment of ₹10 lakh, giving investors advanced strategies without the high entry barrier.

About the Quant SIF Equity Long-Short Fund

  • Launch Date: September 17, 2025
  • Closing Date: October 1, 2025
  • Type: Open-ended (invest or redeem anytime)
  • Strategy:
    • Takes long positions in stocks expected to rise.
    • Takes short positions (via derivatives) in stocks expected to fall.
    • Maintains a diversified portfolio with constant risk checks.

Investment Approach

Quant uses its in-house system, Quantamine, supported by the MARCOV model:

  1. Scans and analyses large sets of market data.
  2. Identifies stocks to buy (long) and stocks to short.
  3. Balances risks by adjusting sector exposure and position size.
  4. Continuously monitors performance with expert oversight.

Conclusion

Quant Mutual Fund’s long-short SIF is a first-of-its-kind product in India. It blends growth potential with risk control, making it attractive for investors seeking a smarter, more balanced approach. However, investors should assess their own risk appetite and goals before investing.
