A monthly SIP in the Mahindra Manulife Mid Cap Fund has delivered an annualised return (XIRR) of 22.3% over the last eight years.

During the same period, the benchmark Nifty Midcap 150 TRI generated 21.1%, according to fund data. This shows the fund has outperformed its benchmark in SIP returns since its launch.

The scheme was allotted on January 30, 2018.

Outperformance Across Time Periods

The fund has consistently beaten its benchmark across different investment horizons.

  • Over 3, 5 and 7 years, it delivered returns at least two percentage points higher than the Nifty Midcap 150 TRI.
  • It also outperformed the mid-cap category average across 1, 3, 5 and 7-year periods.

This consistent performance highlights strong stock selection and portfolio management.

What are Mid-Cap Funds?

Mid-cap funds are equity mutual funds that invest a minimum of 65% of their portfolio in mid-sized companies, typically those ranked between 101st and 250th by market capitalisation. These funds aim to combine the growth potential of small-cap stocks with the comparatively better stability of large-cap companies. They are generally suitable for investors who have a long-term investment horizon of five years or more and are comfortable with higher risk.

Who Should Invest in Mid-Cap Funds?

Mid-cap funds invest in medium-sized companies that have higher growth potential than large caps, though they may also be more volatile. Investors with a long-term horizon often consider mid-cap funds for higher return potential.
