Edelweiss Mutual Fund has stepped into a new investment space with the launch of the Altiva Hybrid Long-Short Fund, the country’s first-ever hybrid long-short Specialised Investment Fund (SIF).
The fund’s new offering window will run from October 1, 2025, to October 15, 2025, setting a fresh benchmark in India’s evolving financial landscape.
The Altiva Hybrid Long-Short Fund is designed to provide steady, income-oriented returns by blending equity arbitrage and high-quality fixed income with selective opportunities in derivatives and special situations such as IPOs, buybacks, open offers, and mergers. Investors can subscribe daily, with redemptions permitted twice weekly.
The minimum entry point has been set at ₹10 lakh, with options for lump sum, SIP, STP, and SWP investments. Its tax-efficient framework provides long-term capital gains at 12.5% after a 24-month holding period, making it an attractive choice compared to Category III AIFs.
Edelweiss Asset Management secured SEBI’s approval in May 2025 to enter the SIF space, a category introduced by the regulator to bridge the gap between traditional Mutual Funds (MFs) and Portfolio Management Services (PMS).
SIFs are built to offer flexibility while ensuring compliance and investor protection. The ₹10 lakh minimum investment threshold makes them particularly appealing to mass affluent investors who want more than conventional Mutual Fund options.
Other mutual funds are also lining up products in this space. Quant Mutual Fund recently announced the launch of its qsif Equity Long Short Fund in September, while Union Mutual Fund has hinted at its first product launch in November 2025.
The Altiva Hybrid Long-Short Fund represents more than just a product launch; it reflects the growing appetite for multi-strategy solutions in India. By creating a middle ground between MFs and PMS, SEBI’s new framework empowers investors with greater choice and flexibility. Edelweiss, with its first-mover advantage, is positioning itself at the forefront of this shift, tapping into evolving investor expectations and India’s broader capital market expansion.
