MiPhi Semiconductors Private Limited, a joint venture between Micromax Informatics and Taiwan’s Phison Technology, has become the first Indian company to design and manufacture enterprise-grade Solid State Drives (SSDs). This development is being seen as a major milestone in India's journey toward self-reliance in technology and digital infrastructure.
The demand for strong data storage solutions is rising because the world is expected to generate over 180 zettabytes of data by 2025. MiPhi’s SSDs aim to offer ultra-fast speed, durability, and strong security, which are crucial for handling large amounts of data, especially in AI and cloud-based systems.
The drives are built to support India’s growing data centre industry and are designed to be scalable for future needs.
MiPhi’s SSDs are completely designed and made in India. The company says these drives are built to meet the needs of data centres, high-performance computing, and mission-critical enterprise environments.
The global enterprise SSD market is expected to grow from US$27 billion in 2024 to over US$50 billion by 2028. At the same time, India’s data centre capacity is set to cross 1.3 gigawatts by 2026, with over US$10 billion in investments expected. This growth will push demand for fast, secure, and locally made storage devices like MiPhi’s SSDs.
This achievement supports the government’s Make in India and Digital India programs, which aim to build indigenous technology and reduce imports. MiPhi’s work aligns with national goals to boost local innovation in semiconductors, edge computing, and AI infrastructure.

MiPhi’s move to develop enterprise SSDs fully in India is a game-changer for the country’s digital future. As the first homegrown brand in this space, MiPhi is not only setting new benchmarks for quality and performance but also leading India towards a more self-reliant and tech-driven economy.
