Meta Platforms has announced a leadership change in India with the appointment of Arun Srinivas as the new managing director and head of operations, effective from July 1, 2025. The move comes at a time when the company is facing increasing regulatory pressure in the country. India remains a key market for Meta, with its platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, having a massive user base in the region.
Arun Srinivas, who joined Meta in 2020, has been promoted from his role as director and head of ads business in India. In that position, he was crucial in working with major advertisers and agencies. He also played a key part in boosting Meta's revenue through advancements in AI, Reels, and Messaging.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Arun Srinivas currently heads Meta’s India ads business and will now assume broader responsibilities across the company’s operations in the country. His elevation marks a significant step in Meta’s India growth strategy, especially as the company seeks to navigate evolving market dynamics. Srinivas's appointment is expected to strengthen Meta's position as it continues to invest in local partnerships and initiatives.
Srinivas brings almost 3 decades of sales and marketing expertise to his new role. He's held leadership positions at prominent firms like Hindustan Unilever, Reebok, Ola, and WestBridge Capital, offering a strong mix of brand development, digital transformation, and growth-oriented strategies.

Srinivas’s appointment also comes against the backdrop of regulatory friction between Meta and Indian authorities. In November, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) fined the company for antitrust violations and imposed a 5-year restriction on WhatsApp from sharing user data with other Meta-owned platforms for advertising purposes. Meta had disagreed with the CCI's order and warned that the restrictions could negatively affect its business operations. However, the company received major relief earlier this year when an Indian tribunal temporarily suspended the five-year ban on data sharing, as per Reuters.
Announcing his Appointment, Sandhya Devanathan, Vice President (India and South East Asia), Meta, said, “As India continues to be at the forefront of economic growth and innovation, we are excited to have Arun at the helm of our efforts in this critical market. Meta in India is leading the way in AI adoption, WhatsApp, and Reels, and Arun’s impressive track record of building high-performing teams, driving product innovation, and fostering strong partnerships makes him the ideal leader to drive Meta’s continued investment in the country. He will continue to work closely with me as we scale the business in India.”
As Arun Srinivas steps into his new leadership role, Meta faces both opportunity and challenge in India. The appointment signals the company’s intent to reinforce its presence while continuing to engage with regulators amid ongoing scrutiny.
