Nifty Metal Index Hits Record High, Jumps 27% in 2025 on Earnings Hopes and Firm Metal Prices

Nifty Metal index touched a fresh record in 2025, rising 27% so far. Strong earnings expectations and firm metal prices lifted metal stocks.

Metal stocks were in strong demand on Monday, pushing the Nifty Metal index to a fresh all-time high of 10,983.20 during intra-day trade on the NSE. The index crossed its previous peak of 10,837.45, set in October 2025.

By 9:55 AM, the Nifty Metal index was up 1.5%, making it the top-performing sectoral index, while the Nifty 50 rose just 0.08%.

Strong Outperformance in 2025

So far in calendar year 2025, the Nifty Metal index has surged around 26–27%, clearly outperforming the broader market. In comparison, the Nifty 50 has gained about 10.4% during the same period.

Hindustan Copper Leads the Rally

Hindustan Copper share price jumped as much as 15% to a record ₹545.95 during the session amid heavy trading volumes. Over the last 3 trading days, the stock has risen 34%.

At the time of reporting, the stock was trading around ₹513.50, with nearly 52 million shares exchanged across NSE and BSE.

Other Metal Stocks Also Gain

Several other metal stocks moved higher:

  • SAIL, Vedanta, Tata Steel, Hindustan Zinc, Jindal Steel, Lloyds Metals and Energy, and Hindalco rose between 1% and 4%.

The rally reflects growing optimism around sector earnings and pricing recovery.

Non-Ferrous Segment Remains Strong

Higher prices of aluminium, zinc and silver helped improve the performance of companies like Hindalco and Vedanta in Q2FY26.

Cautious Outlook on Steel Prices

Steel companies have also guided for a better H2FY26, supported by improving demand and pricing, although rising coking coal costs and global price volatility remain risks.
