In a strategic move to strengthen its infrastructure ecosystem, JSW Energy has acquired a 51% stake in KSK Water Infrastructures Private Limited (KWIPL) for ₹962 crore. This acquisition not only marks the company’s entry into the water infrastructure domain but also guarantees control over critical input supply for its 3,600 MW thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh. The deal follows JSW Energy's earlier acquisition of KSK Mahanadi Power Company Limited (KMPCL), which holds the remaining 49% in KWIPL.
KWIPL plays a vital role in supporting the operations of KMPCL by managing essential water infrastructure. The thermal plant in Chhattisgarh has a total planned capacity of 3,600 MW, of which 1,800 MW is already operational, and the remaining is under development.
Commenting on the deal, Prashant Jain, Joint MD & CEO of JSW Energy, stated, “This move will enable operational control and efficiency in managing water supply to the KSK Thermal Plant for the entire 3,600 MW capacity, enhancing reliability and reducing dependency risks for this critical input.”
The acquisition was part of a court-approved settlement wherein JSW Energy paid ₹962 crore to KWIPL's lenders. The settlement followed the withdrawal of insolvency proceedings by the National Company Law Tribunal, Hyderabad Bench.
KWIPL has experienced significant fluctuations in revenue over the past 3 financial years, reflecting its previous financial difficulties. In FY2023, the company generated ₹204 crore in operational revenue. This declined sharply to ₹36 crore in FY2024 and ₹30 crore in FY2025. With JSW Energy now at the helm, the company expects to stabilise its operations and unlock long-term value through better operational efficiencies and resource integration.
This acquisition aligns closely with JSW Energy’s long-term ambitions. As of now, the company has a locked-in generation capacity of 30.3 GW, comprising 12.8 GW of operational projects, 12.9 GW under construction across thermal and renewable platforms, and 4.6 GW in the pipeline. Additionally, the firm has secured 29.4 GWh of energy storage capacity, 26.4 GWh from hydro pumped storage projects and 3.0 GWh from battery energy storage.
Looking ahead, JSW Energy aims to scale up its power generation capacity to 30 GW and reach 40 GWh of energy storage by FY2030, while targeting carbon neutrality by 2050.

As of August 5, 2025, at 1:13 PM, JSW Energy share price is trading at ₹537.60 per share, reflecting a decline of 0.037%. Over the past month, the stock has gained by 5.48%.
By acquiring majority control in KSK Water, JSW Energy has added a crucial resource capability to its portfolio. This move not only enhances the reliability of its thermal operations in Chhattisgarh but also marks a significant diversification into water infrastructure, placing the company in a stronger position to meet its ambitious growth and sustainability goals over the coming decade.
