BSE Sensex Crosses 80,000 Mark, Financials Lead the Rally on September 01, 2025

The BSE Sensex, India’s most tracked stock market index, touched 80,278.40, gaining 468.75 points (+0.59%) by 1:07 pm on September 1, 2025. The index opened at 79,828.99 and moved between a low of 79,818.38 and a high of 80,265.83.
Top Gainers
Several heavyweight stocks supported the rally. M&M (+3.28%), Trent (+2.32%), Tata Motors (+2.21%), and Asian Paints (+1.96%) were among the top gainers. IT majors like Infosys (+1.93%), Tech Mahindra (+1.84%), and TCS (+1.17%) also added momentum.
Top Losers
On the other hand, some stocks struggled. Sun Pharma (-2.10%), ITC (-1.09%), and Hindustan Unilever (-0.30%) dragged the index down slightly.
Market Capitalisation
As of August 29, 2025, the total market capitalisation of Sensex companies stood at ₹15,811,891 crore, with a free-float market cap of ₹9,398,953 crore.
Sector Contribution
Financial services dominate the Sensex with 39.29% weight, followed by Consumer Discretionary (12.93%), Information Technology (11.55%), and Energy (9.77%). Other sectors like FMCG, Industrials, Telecom, and Utilities hold smaller shares.
