Shares of BEML Ltd rose 2.2% to ₹4,146.10 on the BSE on Thursday after reports suggested the state-run equipment maker may soon be elevated to Navratna status.
The potential upgrade would provide greater financial and operational autonomy, enabling BEML to make faster decisions on investments and strategic initiatives.
Over the past week, the stock has gained a little over 4%. While it is up 6% over the last year, the stock has largely traded flat in 2025.
On September 12, 2025, BEML share price (NSE: BEML) opened at ₹4,066.40, up from its previous close of ₹4,051.40. At 12:54 PM, the share price of BEML was trading at ₹4,355.50, up by 7.51% on the NSE.
According to ETNow report, a formal announcement is expected soon on BEML’s elevation from Miniratna to Navratna status. This transition is significant as Navratna companies enjoy enhanced freedom in capital expenditure, joint ventures, and overseas expansion, making them more agile in a competitive market.
For BEML, which plays a crucial role in defence, railways, and heavy equipment manufacturing, this status could help strengthen its long-term growth trajectory.
The excitement around the upgrade comes despite weak Q1 FY26 results. For the June quarter, BEML reported a net loss of ₹64 crore, compared to a ₹70.5 crore loss last year. EBITDA loss stood at ₹49 crore, slightly better than last year’s ₹50.1 crore but still higher than expectations of ₹45 crore. Revenue came in flat at ₹634 crore, missing the projected ₹689 crore and showing a sequential decline of more than 60%.

BEML’s potential elevation to Navratna status has buoyed investor sentiment despite near-term earnings pressure. While the upgrade could unlock strategic and financial flexibility, sustainable improvement in operational performance will be crucial for driving long-term shareholder value.
