Bajaj Markets Expands into Grocery and Food Delivery Services with ONDC

Bajaj Markets has entered the grocery and food delivery space through the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), as per news reports. The grocery section is now visible under the ‘new launch’ tab on the app. Products include rice, oil, snacks, chocolates, biscuits, and spices. Delivery timelines range from 30 minutes to 2 days, depending on the item.
Food Orders from Local Restaurants
The platform is also offering food delivery services. Users can order meals from nearby restaurants, as listed on the app. According to Bajaj Finserv’s website, this service has been integrated with ONDC. Independent confirmation of the partnership details is still awaited.
Electronics Integration
Last month, Bajaj Markets joined ONDC to offer electronics delivery. Products like smartphones, laptops, smart TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines were made available through the network. This marked the company’s first step into ONDC-based commerce.
ONDC's Food Delivery
ONDC has been steadily building its food delivery network by onboarding buyer apps such as Pincode, Ola, Tata Neu, and Magicpin. In 2023, over 50,000 restaurants were active on the platform for food delivery. Bajaj Markets is one of the newer entrants.
Changes in ONDC Incentives
The network had earlier reduced its maximum incentive limit from ₹2.5 crore to ₹40 lakh per participant. This applies to the buyer app, seller app, and logistics platform combined. Now, ONDC is planning fresh subsidies between ₹100 crore and ₹150 crore for food delivery platforms, allowing them to offer discounts to customers.
ONDC’s Reach
ONDC currently operates in multiple segments:, foodtech, consumer goods, mobility, and financial services. Since going live in January 2023, the network has completed more than 200 million transactions across categories.

Conclusion
This positions Bajaj Markets as the latest participant in ONDC’s rollout of category-level services. As more platforms plug into the network, ONDC’s utility as a shared digital infrastructure is being tested across both daily essentials and discretionary consumption.
