Allied Blenders and Distillers Ltd (ABDL), one of India’s leading spirits companies, has escalated its ongoing legal battle with Tilaknagar Industries Ltd (TIL) by filing a Special Leave Petition before the Supreme Court of India.
The move comes after the Division Bench of the Bombay High Court, on July 16, 2025, allowed appeals filed by TIL and directed that ABDL should maintain non-introduction of its products in India under the disputed marks “Mansion House” and “Savoy Club” until a final decision in the long-pending Commercial IPR Suit No. 2 of 2009.
The dispute between ABDL and TIL revolves around the rights to use the trademarks “Mansion House” and “Savoy Club” in India.
On July 16, 2025, the Division Bench delivered its verdict:
The Bombay High Court’s ruling temporarily halts ABDL’s plans to expand “Mansion House” in India, despite earlier regulatory approvals in West Bengal.
While the financial implications are uncertain, the company noted that the restriction could impact brand rollout strategies. To protect its interests, ABDL has now moved the Supreme Court, seeking relief against the July 16 order.
Allied Blenders and Distillers Ltd shares were trading at ₹512.00, up ₹6.60 or 1.31% at 9:50 AM on the NSE from the previous close of ₹505.40. The stock opened at ₹508.90 and has so far touched a high of ₹513.00 and a low of ₹502.30, with the VWAP at ₹507.25. The movement reflects steady investor interest even as the company remains in the spotlight due to ongoing trademark litigation.
In the year 2025, Allied Blenders and Distillers Ltd declared a dividend of ₹3.60 per share with an ex-dividend date of June 27, 2025. Investors who held the stock in their demat account before the ex-date were eligible to receive the payout.
The case underscores the long-standing trademark battle between ABDL and TIL, two established liquor players with competing interests in the premium spirits segment.
The Supreme Court’s decision on ABDL’s Special Leave Petition will determine whether the company can revive its expansion plans for “Mansion House” and “Savoy Club” or whether the restriction will remain until the final resolution of the commercial IPR suit.
The “Mansion House” trademark dispute highlights the complexities of intellectual property battles in India’s liquor industry.
With ABDL now approaching the Supreme Court, investors and industry watchers will closely monitor how the apex court responds.
