Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has received recognition from Guinness World Records for issuing the highest number of life insurance policies in a 24-hour period. The state-owned insurer completed the sale of 5,88,107 life insurance policies on January 20, 2025, across the country.
As of 09:34 AM on May 26, 2025, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) share price was trading at ₹865, a 0.55% increase, with a 5.13% decline over the past 6 months and a 16.92% drop over the past year.
The record-setting figure was made possible through the efforts of 4,52,839 LIC agents, who were part of the coordinated nationwide effort. This marked the highest number of policies ever issued by a life insurance company globally within a single day.
The record has been officially verified by Guinness World Records. LIC confirmed the achievement through a public statement issued on May 25, 2025.

The sales push took place as part of an internal campaign called 'Mad Million Day', during which every LIC agent was encouraged to close at least one policy. The campaign was initiated by LIC's Managing Director and CEO, Siddhartha Mohanty.
Agents from different parts of the country participated in the campaign, with all completed policies processed and issued on the same day. According to LIC, this volume of policy issuance within such a short window had not been previously achieved in the life insurance sector.
In its statement, LIC mentioned that the effort reflected the scale and capacity of its agent network. The record, it noted, was the result of a focused initiative and widespread cooperation among agents and staff.
The recognition from Guinness World Records places LIC in the global record books for insurance operations. With 5.8 lakh policies sold in a single day, the insurer has set a measurable benchmark in the sector without disclosing specific policy types or client data.
