The Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), the country's largest insurance provider and a major public sector enterprise (PSE), has posted an all-time high net profit of ₹19,013 crore for the January-March quarter of FY25. This marks a substantial 38% increase compared to ₹13,763 crore reported in the same quarter the previous year. LIC’s impressive performance has made it the most profitable PSU for the quarter, ahead of other state-owned giants.

Comparison with Other Leading PSUs

LIC led the pack in quarterly earnings, with the State Bank of India (SBI) close behind, registering ₹18,643 crore profit in Q4. However, on an annual basis, SBI remained ahead, recording ₹70,901 crore profit in FY25 compared to LIC’s ₹48,151 crore. Among other key PSUs, Coal India reported ₹9,604 crore, Power Finance Corporation (PFC) ₹8,358 crore, and NTPC ₹7,897 crore. In the oil and energy sector, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) earned ₹7,265 crore while ONGC secured ₹6,448 crore. Meanwhile, companies such as REC Ltd, Power Grid Corporation, and Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) also contributed significantly with profits of ₹4,304 crore, ₹4,143 crore, and ₹1,251 crore, respectively.

LIC Financial Highlights

The company's market capitalisation increased by ₹45,223.74 crore, reaching ₹5,96,162.66 crore. Furthermore, LIC’s Assets Under Management (AUM) rose by 6.45% year-on-year to ₹54.52 lakh crore as of 31 March 2025. Income from renewal premiums saw a moderate increase to ₹79,138 crore, up from ₹77,368 crore a year earlier, while management expenses notably declined from ₹24,709 crore to ₹16,495 crore, reflecting improved operational efficiency.

Share Price Performance 

As of June 02, 2025, at 12:25 PM, the LIC share price is trading at ₹961.35 per share, reflecting a surge of 0.72% from the previous closing price. Over the past month, the stock has surged by 21.34%. The stock's 52-week high stands at ₹1,222 per share, while its low is ₹715.30 per share.
