The Maharashtra government has removed 2,289 women government employees from the list of beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, as per ANI reports. These employees were found to be ineligible after a verification exercise, as the scheme explicitly excludes those employed in government services.
The Ladki Bahin scheme was introduced in August 2023 by the state government. It offers ₹1,500 per month to women aged 21 to 65 years. The objective is to provide financial assistance through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to support basic needs like health and nutrition.
According to government data, the scheme currently covers around 2.4 crore women across Maharashtra. These transfers are made monthly via DBT. The total allocation for 2025-26 spans several departments, with ₹28,290 crore from general category funds, ₹3,240 crore from the tribal development department, and ₹3,960 crore from the social justice department.
The government is also reviewing a proposal to allow beneficiaries to avail of loans against their ₹1,500 monthly assistance. If implemented, the government would cover the loan repayments. This is aimed at enabling women to take up micro-businesses, though it is still under consideration.

Separately, the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Industries approved ₹1.35 lakh crore worth of investment proposals across 17 large-scale projects. These include sectors like semiconductors, EV components, solar cells, textiles, and aerospace. The projects are expected to create roughly 1 lakh jobs across the state.
The government continues to monitor the implementation of welfare schemes and industrial approvals. The state government is also actively working to identify and remove ineligible claimants, thereby refining the benefit distribution process.
