India is taking a significant leap in clean energy infrastructure as IFC and IndiGrid join forces to set up a 360 MWh battery storage project in Gujarat. This development is aligned with India's 2030 clean energy roadmap, aimed at improving grid stability through large-scale energy storage deployment.
IFC has committed $55 million in long-term financing for the project, subscribing to listed non-convertible debentures issued by IndiGrid. This includes $38.5 million from IFC’s own funds and $16.5 million contributed by the Clean Technology Fund under the Climate Investment Funds. The battery energy storage system (BESS), which will be set up in Gujarat, is designed to enhance grid flexibility, improve power availability during peak loads, and support renewable power penetration.
This investment supports India’s mission to achieve 500 GW of clean energy capacity by 2030. With the growing use of intermittent sources like solar and wind energy, BESS plays a vital role in stabilising grid fluctuations, ensuring a consistent power supply, and reducing dependency on fossil fuels. The system enables stored renewable energy to be dispatched when demand surges, reducing load stress and blackout risks.
IndiGrid, an Infrastructure Investment Trust in India’s power sector, has been actively partnering with IFC to expand India’s green infrastructure. Since 2023, IFC has provided IndiGrid with a cumulative debt line of $380 million. This latest funding highlights IFC’s continuation of strategic investments in sustainable and commercially viable energy assets.

The new battery project aligns with Gujarat’s ambition of achieving 100 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. The BESS installation will not only serve as a buffer for demand-supply imbalances in the grid but also act as a model for replication across other Indian states. It marks a significant move towards building resilient and future-ready energy infrastructure.
On July 3, 2025, Indigrid Infrastructure Trust share price opened at ₹154.42 on NSE, above the previous close of ₹154.12. During the day, it surged to ₹155.39 and dipped to ₹153.01. The stock is trading at ₹154.84 as of 3:03 PM. The stock registered a marginal change of 0.47%.
Over the past week, it has moved up by 1.76%, over the past month, it has moved up by 3.15%, and over the past 3 months, it has moved up by 11.47%.
The collaboration between IFC and IndiGrid sets a benchmark in integrating storage solutions with renewables in India. With a 360 MWh standalone battery storage project now underway in Gujarat, India is moving closer to a cleaner, more stable and efficient electricity grid aligned with its 2030 energy objectives.
