The Government of India is set to receive a substantial dividend payout of ₹7,324 crore from Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), following the insurer’s announcement of a ₹12 per share final dividend for the financial year 2024–25 (FY25).
This payout, pending approval at LIC’s upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) on August 26, 2025, will significantly contribute to the government’s non-tax revenues.
Since LIC’s market listing in May 2022, the government has earned several rounds of dividends:
In total, ₹26.50 per share has been paid out in dividends since listing — with the Centre receiving the lion’s share each time.
Established in 1956, LIC is India’s largest life insurer and is state-owned. It operates under the regulation of IRDAI, offering a wide range of insurance, pension, and annuity products across India and overseas.
As of July 24, 2025, LIC share price was trading at ₹918.45 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), slightly down by 0.39% from the previous day. The stock has declined by 2.29% from the start of the month. This was due to fluctuations driven by profit booking, broader market sentiment, and expectations from the AGM. LIC’s average share price for the month stood at ₹939.10, and trading volumes varied widely — peaking at 2.44 million shares on June 30 and remaining active throughout July.
