Indian benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open on a flat note this Friday, reflecting cautious sentiment across global markets.
Asian markets showed a mixed trend, even as US equities closed at record highs. Overnight, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq extended their rally, bolstered by strong economic data.
Indian equity markets ended lower on Thursday, weighed down by late-session selling pressure, marking the second straight session of losses. The Sensex slipped 170.22 points, or 0.20%, to settle at 83,239.47, while the Nifty 50 fell 48.10 points, or 0.19%, ending the day at 25,405.30.
At 07:55 AM, Gift Nifty hovered near the 25,499.50, signalling a discount of 61 points over the previous Nifty futures close. This suggests a mildly flat to negative start for domestic indices.
Asian equities traded mixed on Friday, mirroring the uneven cues from Wall Street. Japan's Nikkei 225 was flat, while the broader Topix index edged up 0.15%. South Korea’s Kospi declined 0.56%, and the tech-heavy Kosdaq dropped 0.8%. Futures pointed to a weak start for Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index.
