On June 11, 2025, Eternal Ltd., the parent company of Zomato, saw its stock rise by 2% following a large pre-market block deal. Around 60.93 lakh shares changed hands at an average price of ₹256 per share, bringing the total transaction value to approximately ₹156 crore. This volume accounted for 0.06% of Eternal’s total outstanding equity.

Competitive Pressure From Rapido

Despite the price bump, Eternal had faced recent selling pressure due to news that Rapido plans to enter the food delivery market in Bengaluru. Rapido has reportedly started onboarding restaurants and will offer lower commission rates—between 8% to 15%, compared to the 15%–30% charged by competitors like Swiggy and Zomato.

Industry Impact and IPO Developments

Last week, both Eternal and Swiggy saw gains after reports suggested a delay in the IPO of rival company Zepto. However, Zepto clarified that it will still file for an IPO later in 2025.

Conclusion

While Eternal benefited from a major block deal, the entry of new competitors like Rapido could keep pressure on the stock. Investors will be watching closely as market dynamics shift in the food delivery space.
