UIDAI Simplifies Aadhaar Address Updates: Online Service Now Free Until July 2026

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced new measures to make it easier for Aadhaar cardholders to update their address details online through its official portal.

For now, only address updates can be done online, and the service will remain free of cost until July 14, 2026. Other demographic updates, such as name, date of birth, or biometric details (fingerprints, iris, or facial data) must still be completed in person at the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

Steps to Update Aadhaar Address Online

1. Visit the official UIDAI website.
2. Select the “Document Update” option.
3. Click “Submit” and enter your Aadhaar number.
4. Complete OTP verification through your registered mobile number.
5. Choose “Address Update”, and proceed either by uploading documents or through a family member’s Aadhaar (Head of Family).
6. Fill in the required details and upload a supporting address proof.
7. Save the acknowledgment receipt containing your 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) for tracking purposes.

UIDAI typically takes up to 30 days to verify and process the address update. Additionally, UIDAI has revised its fee structure for demographic and biometric updates, now ranging from ₹75 to ₹125, applicable at Aadhaar Seva Kendras.
