The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has received around 100 complaints from people across India, as per the NDTV Profit reports. The complaints state that several companies and shopkeepers are not giving customers the full benefit of the revised Goods and Services Tax (GST).
These complaints were submitted using the GST grievance facility on the National Consumer Helpline (NCH). People could file through different channels such as the NCH helpline number 1915, the mobile app, the official website, WhatsApp, SMS, email, and the Umang app.
Officials have asked the public to actively report any cases where GST benefits are not passed on. This includes both offline retail stores and online platforms.
To manage the growing number of complaints, the ministry has set up a team to track cases filed on the portal. Every complaint is also being sent to the concerned company for a response and possible resolution.
Speaking exclusively to NDTV Profit, Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare has warned businesses about failing to comply. She said that if the reduced GST rates are not reflected in prices, it will be treated as an “unfair practice.” Companies found guilty may face strict action, including class action cases.
Khare also pointed out that the ministry already has a system to monitor whether companies are following the revised tax rules. She added that all types of consumer complaints will be reviewed and acted upon.
The revised GST system, which came into effect on September 22, 2025, simplified the structure by cutting the earlier four slabs, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% to just two rates: 5% and 18%. This change has lowered prices for vehicles like cars and bikes, along with several household goods.

With complaints already crossing 100, the ministry is focusing on faster monitoring and resolution. The government continues to push for strict enforcement so that customers receive the full benefit of the revised GST.
