Indian consumers defied soaring precious metal prices to spend an impressive ₹1,00,000 crore on Dhanteras 2025, with gold and silver together accounting for ₹60,000 crore in sales, as per CAIT. This seasonal spike marks a 25% jump in bullion purchases compared to the previous year, highlighting strong festive demand across urban and Tier 2 cities.
According to news reports, gold prices climbed as high as ₹1,34,000 per 10 grams before correcting slightly to ₹1,32,000 in Delhi and ₹1,28,000 in Mumbai. Despite the price hike of over 60% year-on-year, consumers continued to buy gold coins and lightweight ornaments for festive gifting, weddings, and investment. Volume of gold sold dipped by 15%, but the overall transaction value rose due to higher prices and strategic buying behaviour.
Silver saw a significant price jump to ₹1,80,000 per kg from ₹98,000 last year, marking a 55% year-on-year increase. Still, buying remained robust with notable activity in silver coins and puja items, especially in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Sales volume of silver coins alone surged 35–40%, reflecting a shift toward budget-friendly, value-focused investments over high-priced gold.

Utensil sales touched ₹15,000 crore, and electronics contributed another ₹10,000 crore. Decorative items and religious materials saw ₹3,000 crore in combined sales, underscoring the buoyant festive mood across product categories.
Dhanteras 2025 showcased India’s unwavering festive spirit and traditional affinity for precious metals. Even amidst record price levels, demand for gold and silver remained strong, with consumers choosing strategic, value-oriented purchases. The surge in silver volumes, supported by robust sales in other segments, pushed total Dhanteras spending to an all-time high of ₹1,00,000 crore.
