Andhra Pradesh is working on expanding its renewable energy capacity. Under the PM-KUSUM scheme, the central government has approved 2,000 MW of solar power generation in the state, as per the reports. Private player Jupiter International, via its subsidiary Jupiter Renewables, is the latest entrant this month, planning a ₹2,700 crore investment in Rambili, Anakapalli district, to establish a 4.8 GW solar photovoltaic (PV) cell and 1.5 GW module manufacturing facility.
The state government is also reportedly in discussions with other major players in the solar manufacturing industry, including Tata Power, Waaree, and Vikram Solar, suggesting the potential for even more investments in the near future.
Several defence manufacturing proposals have been shared with the Union ministries. In the Jaggayyapeta-Dolakonda cluster, the state has identified 6,000 acres for a missile and ammunition production centre. Aircraft and electronics manufacturing have been proposed in the Lepakshi-Madakasira region. Naval experimentation facilities have been suggested in the Visakhapatnam-Anakapalli belt. Kurnool-Orvakal is being considered for drone, robotics, and advanced defence components manufacturing.
The state has also requested a DRDO Centre of Excellence at IIT Tirupati and proposed setting up a military cantonment in Andhra Pradesh. Discussions on these are ongoing.
2 integrated Space Cities have been proposed. One would be located near the ISRO SHAR spaceport, and another near Lepakshi. These are to house facilities for satellite production, launch vehicle development, and industry collaboration. The state is seeking central support for these projects.
Ongoing initiatives include a digital system to track welfare delivery at the household level and the One Family, One Entrepreneur programme, aimed at creating employment at the local level. These fall under the broader Swarnandhra Vision 2047 framework. The state aims to reach a GSDP of $2.4 trillion by 2047.
Technology hubs like Quantum Valley (Amaravati), Drone City (Orvakal), and a biomedical manufacturing park (Visakhapatnam) are also part of the roadmap.
